I think that spider is following me. It started when I tried killing it with my shoe the other day. I missed. The spider retreated into a small hole in the wall. Ever since then he peeks out, staring at me. Last night, while taking a shower, I found him glued to the ceiling; watching me. I threw the soap, missing my aim. He scampered behind a crack in the shower tile. Sneaky little bastard.
I woke up this morning and found him on the nightstand. I hopped out of bed and swatted a stack of papers. He escaped into the hole, little shit. I can only imagine what that spider is thinking when I’m asleep.
While watching television, I feel his eyes hunting me in the corner, hiding his presence. Sometimes during sleep, a dream of fingers traveling across my skin. I get up, scratching my elbows, spotted in red dots. The itch burns. The rash resembles mosquito bites or poison ivy. I stand in the bathroom mirror with puss leaking from the wounds, did that spider bite me? He’s sitting on the dryer watching me suffer with bleeding sores. I throw a shoe and miss. He crawls behind the dryer, disappearing between tangled wires. That spider is stalking me. I know he is. My therapist says it’s all in my head. If it is, what’s the explanation of the bite marks? If it’s all in my head, why are a set of oscillating arms growing from my back? If it is all in my head, why am I shoving flies in my mouth?
